The PRISM fund (for PReservation of Industrial and Scientific Material) administered by Arts Council England has issued its annual report for 2012-2013. The fund awarded 22 grants worth £191,115 supporting the acquisition and conservation of some unique and important items of scientific, technological or industrial heritage.
in 2012/2013 73% of the awards were for conservation and some of the important projects supported included the restoration of a First World War Hunslet steam locomotive, a Black Country canal boat, two waterwheels and a stuffed Adelie penguin collected during Scott’s 1911 expedition to Antarctica.
Grants for acquisitions included one for the purchase of a Series 1 Land Rover for the Museum of English Rural Life and another towards the purchase of a rare globe of Mars by the Whipple Museum.
